This intermediate course gave me the opportunity to refine my typographic knowledge and skills. This project developed a critical awareness to provide effective expression of meaning through the visible word, which in turn demands an understanding of content and constant attention to detail. The aim of this project was to produce an outcome of a high technical and aesthetic standard through concentrating on the thoughtful combination of word and image. The primary objective of this course was to further prepare me with the technical and cognitive competencies that enable me to deal effectively and professionally with visual communication design problems and prepare sophisticated type outcomes for print.
After hours of developing and reconfiguring my typeface, I created 'Lacuna Castle' a font that is contemporary and minimal that reinterprets the meaning of negative space and type, also reinforcing sustainability within its strokes.
LACUNA = meaning a missing part or unfilled space
CASTLE = meaning strength, stability, power and authority
My typeface aims to hold elegance and control bringing beauty and a lightweight feel to large headings or signature spaces.
My design intent is an exploration of spatial, minimalist typography and sustainability within text.
